5 Substack Writers Who Belong In Your "Parenting Village"
These 5 women and their Substacks have been integral parts of my Parenting Village, and to Type A Mom❤️
Hello from my 101st Substack article! That number seems so big and I don’t even think I could’ve imagined it when wrote I my first Type A Mom’s Trusted Tips article in 2024!
I started writing this newsletter to share the systems I create to efficiently get through the behind-the-scenes work of parenting three kids. These ideas have come together by merging over 12 years of parenting trial-and-error, plus my love for deep dive research as a Type A personality, plus my experience making movies in Hollywood (which I’ve found to be very similar to running a family!).
Using these parenting systems has given me more time to spend with my kids instead of spending it on the busywork of parenting, and when I shared these tips with my friends I saw that they worked for them too! So, I decided to write it all down to help as many parents as I could spend more of their time with their kids😊
I truly hope that these weekly Sunday articles have helped you with all that goes into the behind-the-scenes work of parenting. Whether you’re looking for ways to simplify all the elements of traveling with kids, or for what to actually matters for preparing for kindergarten, or for systems to make sharing the load with your partner easier, or for musings on what’s working as each of my kids grows into a new developmental stage, I hope that these articles resonate with you and give you tools to more easily manage modern parenting.

As I reflect on these two years on Substack, I’m filled with gratitude that you’ve welcomed me in to your “Parenting Village”. Thank you! I know time is limited, and that email inboxes get crowded, and I appreciate you giving both to Type A Mom.
While so many of you have encouraged me, I want to specifically thank five women Substack writers who have inspired me to keep going (even when I had fewer than 10 subscribers), who supported me in getting my writing seen by other parents, and whose Substack articles have made them become important parts of my Parenting Village.
I’m sharing these women’s work because I’m sure one (or more!) of them will resonate with you, and that you will want to add them to your personal Parenting Village😊
Emily Raiber of Raiber’s Recommendations
I had to start this list of Substack writers I love with Emily Raiber! She is the one who introduced me to Substack in 2024. I was figuring out how to get an email distribution list set up and she told me I had to look at Substack. I am so glad I listened to Emily - this Substack would literally not exist without her!
Emily’s Substack (click here) is filled with amazing helpful advice about non-toxic finds for home & kids & clothes (she is co-founder of Dr Organic Mommy), how to live a healthier life, and her professional take on different aspects of social media.
Her articles are helpful in finding non-toxic items for kids (and me!) and while this isn’t a parenting article, the piece she wrote about colonoscopies has helped so many people, and staying healthy is an important part of being a parent. Click here to read.
Zibby Owens of Zibby’s Highlights
I owe such a huge thank you to Zibby Owens! She has been encouraging me to keep going with Type A Mom no matter how often I feel like I am writing into the void. Her support has helped many parents find my writing, and it makes me so happy to be able to offer ideas to these parents.
Zibby’s Substack (click here) is filled with engaging articles about her work as a book author, a book publisher, a retreat host, a podcast host, a mother, and an amazing community builder. Her passion for books has helped me become a reader again, and I love how she gathers women together at her many inspiring in-person events.
I especially love Zibby’s most anticipated book lists for every season because having a good book to read means I’m off my phone and much more present for my kids! Click here for her summer 2026 list so you can add to your TBR pile!
Erin Miller of Unpopular Parent
Erin Miller reached out to me when I had fewer than 95 subscribers and asked me to submit an article to one of her PARENTstack Digest articles, which she then published! To have the support of a Substack writer also writing in the parenting space was unbelievably encouraging, and I am so grateful for that opportunity because it introduced my work to many other parents.
Erin’s Substack (click here) covers how parents must show up as their best selves to help raise kids who trust themselves. I particularly love that many of her articles are about the parenting stage that I am yet to get to (teens and beyond) because it helps me see what lies ahead, and she presents it all in a calm and digestible way.
The article she wrote about how parents should be aware of how much grace they’re asking from kids but may not be reciprocating really resonated with me. Click here to read.
Kayla Voigt of Travel with Toddlers
Kayla Voigt was the first Substack writer to ask to do a Q&A with me and feature me in an article! I had never done one of these before and she walked me through each bit so kindly and patiently, and I loved working with her. It was so exciting to collaborate with another Substacker in this way!
Kayla’s Substack (click here) is about traveling with her toddler and is filled with travel hacks and gear that actually work! If your kids are toddlers, she’s great for real-time travel advice.
I love her most recent article about managing toddler tantrums while traveling – insightful and filled with helpful steps to follow! Click here to read.
Neha Ruch of planting seeds
Neha Ruch read my article about how much I love having a family email account and not only shared it with her audience, but also asked me to virtually present the system to her online community of women in their “Power Pause” (which I highly recommend joining if you’re at home with your kids and looking for support and inspiration). I am so grateful for that opportunity, and loved talking about a topic I’m so passionate about!
Neha’s Substack (click here) is about how women can find time to build their own businesses in between being full-time caregivers, drawing upon her experience starting the movement to rebrand the term “stay-at-home motherhood” and building a community of women taking a “Power Pause” from work to spend time at home with their children. If you’re a mom who’s building something, Neha understands what you’re going through and can guide you in a way very few others can.
I love her article about building something no one understands yet, and dealing with rejection about it. Click here to read.
I hope adding these women to your Parenting Village helps you in your parenting journey as much as they help me in mine!
As I look to the next 100 (and more!) articles on Type A Mom, I’m ready to step into the next phase of production. This evolution is going to be additive to what is already here – the free weekly Sunday newsletter – for those who want a more hands-on way to implement the systems I write about.
Starting today, here’s what to expect from Type A Mom:
Sunday articles will stay exactly as they are with one free newsletter every Sunday, full archive always available, no changes.
Starting August 1st, paid subscribers will get The Production Suite: the behind-the-scenes version of how I run my family every month.
To reiterate, nothing will change with receiving full articles every Sunday! All that I’m doing for this next phase is additive to what is already being delivered.
The new elements for paid subscribers make up The Production Suite of Type A Mom. This is what’s included:
The One Liner (Monthly To-Do List)
In film production, The One Liner is the schedule that maps the entire shoot in its simplest form with each day’s scenes listed, in order, before the movie begins shooting.
Every month on the 1st, you’ll receive an email with that month’s “One Liner”. These are the things actually on my to-do list for that month that set my family up for success.
The Table Read (Discuss the To-Do List)
A Table Read is when the whole cast and crew meets and reads through the entire script before filming begins so they all understand what they’re making, and why.
Right after The One Liner drops on the 1st of the month I’ll go live on Substack at 9:30am PT / 12:30pm ET to walk through every item on the list. I’ll explain the thinking behind it, why it matters this month, and how doing it now will set you up for success.
The Studio Visit (Mid-Month Check In and Q&A)
A Studio Visit is when the studio goes to set partway through production to check in, ask questions, and make sure everything is on track logistically, creatively, and budgetarily.
On the 15th of every month at 9:30am PT / 12:30pm ET, I’ll go live on Substack to answer questions about where we are in the month, and answer anything else going on in your family’s production.
Behind-the-Scenes (Resources)
Behind-the-Scenes is where everything happens that makes the finished movie possible.
Every checklist, template, and printable I’ve created (and will create) in these articles lives here in a post that is pinned to the top of the Type A Mom Substack page. The resources are downloadable and yours to keep, and this library will grow every month. If you’re a paid subscriber, click here to access.
Script Notes Meeting (Subscriber Chat)
A Script Notes Meeting is when filmmakers gather and give notes on the script to improve it before it goes into production.
A space to compare notes with other parents who are also figuring out modern parenting. Ask the group, share what’s working, and compare notes on how the One Liner is going each month. As with all of Type A Mom, any “type” of parent is welcome — you don’t have to be Type A to benefit from, or join in, the conversation!
Thank you for having me as a part of your Parenting Village. I’m grateful for you all, and excited to be on this journey together!
❤️, Amanda, your Type A Mom friend
